So, there are a series of factors that help us achieve better looking hair and we have synthesized them into seven with the help of experts.

1. Moisturize well, especially from the middle to the ends

The outermost part of the hair, the cuticles, are like scales which, if not well sealed, are open doors that allow water to escape from the hair and allow the entry of all types of hair. Harmful external agents that cause dehydration of the hair, making it more fragile. To avoid this, the Klorane expert explains to us that it is essential to use frequently, each time you wash your hair, a balm from mid-lengths to ends which in just two minutes is able to seal the cuticles, promoting the detangling and restoring hydration to the hair, acting as a shield against external agents. Finally, there are leave-in products, such as hair day creams, which, by simply applying a small amount to the ends, can prevent frizz and split ends and therefore preserve the hair's daily hydration.

2. “Listen” to the scalp

The scalp is the base on which the hair rests and, therefore, it must be maintained with great care, since any alteration of this part can lead to, among other things, hair loss. “Although we may not be aware of it, the main product that takes care of the scalp is shampoo. It is therefore important to use one that is gentle and respectful of the scalp,” explains Marina A. Marañón, who explains that we must choose the shampoo based on how we have our scalp and not how we have our hair. “To detect how we are affected, we ask ourselves this simple question: How often does our hair stay clean? If it remains clean for a long time during the week, this means that we have a scalp that tends to be dry and therefore we need a moisturizing or nourishing shampoo, and on the contrary, if it remains very little clean, it tends to be greasy and we need an astringent shampoo with great cleaning power,” he explains.

3. Take care of your diet

As Marina A. Marañón explains to us, hair in its innermost part is nourished by the vitamins and minerals found in our body and that we obtain from food. We must therefore keep in mind that a healthy diet also influences our hair. It is advisable to eliminate processed foods, eat less meat, less salt and less sugar. And increase the consumption of fruits, vegetables, nuts or sprouts like soy, alfalfa, broccoli or onion, which provide extraordinary nutrients, vitamins and minerals that will keep the body and hair healthy shiny. But there are times when our lifestyle prevents us from having adequate nutrition and as a result our hair can suffer from malnutrition and lead to hair loss and weakening problems. This is why it is recommended at key periods of the year (seasonal changes, peaks of stress, postpartum, diets, etc.) to take 3-month shock treatments with a food supplement in the form of capsules which will provide these vitamins and minerals. this may be missing (like Martinn de Nuggela & Sulé).

4. Be extremely careful when wet

This guarantees safe, breakage-free detangling. After washing, gently use a wide-toothed comb that is gentle on hair and suitable for all hair types.

5. Spend five minutes before bed

We know there are nights when all you want to do is go to bed after cleaning your face. But it's also important to spend a few minutes on your hair before going to sleep. Thus, Natalia Olmo, creator of Maminat, recommends brushing your hair before going to bed to promote blood circulation. And he recommends doing it with “wooden brushes because they don't frizz the hair.” Additionally, brushing exfoliates the scalp, removes product residue and enhances shine. Add one more suggestion for nighttime: “For those with long hair, I always recommend sleeping with a loose braid or a bun held with a clip at the top. “That way they don’t step on their hair and it won’t pull out or break.”

6. Wash it properly

After choosing the shampoo, you need to wash your hair properly. “Spread it first on both hands, then work it on the roots for at least three minutes and finally rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water and cold water at the end,” advises Adolfo Remartínez, creator of Nuggela & Sulé.

7. Cut every three months… unless you have fine hair

Every hair is different and, for this reason, as María Baras, creative director of Cheska, explains to us, it is important to personalize the cut and treatment. “Generally speaking, you could say that every three months. But if you have fine hair, every two months you should do a cleaning cut of the hair, of a few millimeters, but removing the entire tip to strengthen it. Meanwhile, for people with long hair, a well-done cut can last up to four months or more. This is why I like to talk about time and not centimeters, because it depends on each case. If you want to keep it long, have super healthy hair and its shape lasts a long time, you can cut it every four months.
